Clara Mae Ervin Michaux, 88, of Morganton went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 after an unexpected illness.

Born in Burke County, NC on September 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Elam Suddreth and Jessie Mae Ervin Avery.  Clara was a member of Mission A.M.E. Church.  She was a former employee of UNC Hospital before working for and retiring from Drexel Heritage Furnishings.  She was a member of Chapter 571 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was working as a foster grandparent at Chesterfield Elementary.

A loving mother and grandmother, Clara will be missed by her sons, Roger Kincaid and his wife, Brenda, of Morganton and Scotty Kincaid and his wife, Louise, of Hillsborough, NC; daughters, Terri Riggsbee and her husband, Bobby, of Newport News, VA, Princess Walden of High Point, NC, and Jessie Yount of Lenoir, NC; step-sons, Allen Michaux of Portsmouth, VA and George Kincaid of Rahway, NJ; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Ervin of Atlantic City, NJ; sisters, Faye E. Sharpe of Oregon, Betty Jean Avery of St. Louis, MO, and Mary Johnson of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Kincaid, Donnell Walden, and Paul Michaux; a son, Larry Donnell Walden; a step-son, Paul “Chucky” Michaux; brothers, James “Mutt” Ervin, Joe Avery, Ervin Rutherford, and Jack Avery; and sisters, Rosa Lee Rutherford and Nancy Avery.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 9, 2015 at Gaston Chapel A.M.E. Church.  The funeral will be held at the church at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Lander Corpening, the Rev. Hurbert Carter, the Rev. Diane Conley, the Rev. Jasper Hemphill, and the Rev. Gwendolyn Benjamin officiating.  Burial will follow at Mission A.M.E. Church Cemetery.
