Born in Burke County, NC on February 10, 1968, he was the son of the late Millard Helton and Joe Ann Berry Helton.
Charles served in the US Navy as a special amphibious reconnaissance corpsman. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and all kinds of music, and he deeply cared for his beloved family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Leah Cook; daughter, Andrea Metcalf; grandson, Jackson Metcalf; step-children, Frances Howell (James) and Timothy Bryant, Jr. (Daniella); step-grandchildren, Xander, Braylon, Leticia, and Nivea; brother, Mickey Cook (Joyce); cousins, George Featherbay and Jeremy Abee; and good friend, Rob Fleming.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a sister, Shelia Cook.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home and the graveside service will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of Charles’s passing. He grew up just a few doors down from my grandparents so I saw him all the time growing up. He was always such a nice guy. My condolences to all of his family and friends. My prayers are with you all.
