Cecil Oliver Shell, 79, of US Hwy 64, Morganton went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 12, 2010 at Carolinas Specialty Hospital in Charlotte following a lengthy illness. Mr. Shell was born in Burke County on March 10, 1931 and was a son of the late Joe Oliver Shell and Elsie Powell Shell. Cecil was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed boating and fishing. He was a member of Walker Road Baptist Church for 53 years where he was a member of the choir and served as a deacon.Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Cordie Denton Shell, of the home; his son, Paul Shell of Morganton; grandchildren, Wesley Shell of Raleigh and Allison Shell of Morganton; and great-granddaughter, Molly Ann Shell of Morganton; brothers, Marshall Shell of Forest City, and Roy Shell of Hendersonville; and a sister, Beulah Whisnant, of Glen Alpine.In addition to his parents Cecil was preceded in death by brothers, Buddy and Kenneth Shell.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at Walker Road Baptist Church with the Reverends Brandon Ware and Jack Moses officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home, 3020 US Hwy 64, Morganton. Memorial contributions may be made to Walker Road Baptist Church, 100 Walker Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
