Cecil Chapman, 88, of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Born in Burke County, NC on August 24, 1927, he was the son of the late Julius Cicero Chapman and Jennie Butler Chapman. After the passing of his parents, Cecil was raised by John and Anna “Anner” Denton of Morganton. Mr. Chapman was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved to befriend and care for all of the wild animals around his house.
A devoted husband and father, Cecil is survived by his wife, Sadie Bradshaw Chapman of the home; a son, Bill Chapman and his wife, Lorraine; a daughter, Jennie Chapman Hutchins; a granddaughter, Mary Hutchins Gladden and her husband, Keith; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Jonathan Hutchins.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
