Catherine Shores Epley

Catherine Shores Epley, 84, of Morganton went home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 2, 2018.  Born in Watauga County, NC on August 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Don H. Shores and Yonnie Greene Shores.  Catherine was a member of Summit Community Church, formerly known as Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school for 57 years.  She retired from Holiday Laundry and was an excellent seamstress.  Catherine was a loving grandmother who was adored by all who knew her.

Mrs. Epley is survived by her husband, Claude Epley of the home; grandchildren, Tiffany Epley (Brandon) Lynn and Clyde (Laura) McNeely; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Cadence, Elizabeth, Bobby, Austin, and Gracie; step-children, Kenneth Epley, Ellen Epley, and John Epley; 5 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Agnes) Shores Roanoke, VA and Wayne Shores and girlfriend, Susan, of Morganton; sister, Sharon S. (Harold) Carswell of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde McNeely; daughter, Cathy Wike; son, Bobby McNeely; step-son, Marvin Epley; and brothers, Hoy, Coy, and Earl Shores.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery with Revs. Larry Thompson and Mike Chandler officiating.
