Catherine “Cat” Thompson, 86, of Valdese, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 4, 2026, after an extended illness.
Born in Burke County, NC on January 11, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Jordan and Florence Catherine Hurt Jordan.
Cat was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church for over 30 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she most enjoyed spending time with her family.
Cat worked for many years as a manager at Winn Dixie and owned various convenience stores in the Salem area. She loved life and people, and she made many friends while working. Cat also spent many years working as a realtor for Causby Realty before her retirement.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ronnie Walker (Sandra); daughter, Cathy Walker Crisp (Alfred); grandchildren, Shannon Griffiths (Matt), Ashlee Walker, Christopher Crisp, and Dillan Crisp; great-grandchildren, Zachary Martins, Harper Griffiths, Grant Griffiths, and Raylee Walker; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her special niece and caregiver, Sherrie Crabtree.
In addition to her parents, Cat was preceded in death by her husband, Otis C. Thompson; brothers, Buddy Jordan, William “Bud” Clarence Jordan, Carl “Pee Wee” Jordan, and Charles Ray “Red” Jordan; and a sister, Vonnie Jordan Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Monday, September 7, 2026 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank Amorem Hospice for the wonderful care shown to Cat, and her church family and friends for the many prayers.

We are so sorry to hear of Catherine’s passing. One thing I know gives you comfort is we know where she’s gone & will see her again. She fought a good fight & kept the faith. She was a wonderful lady. She was what I considered a true lady & was always so put together. We love you all & are praying for you.
I am so sorry to hear of Cat’s passing! She was my deli manager at Winn Dixie back in 1976 and for about 4 or 5 years. I always thought a lot of Cat. She was always a very kind and elegant lady. To her children Ronnie and Cathy I am so very sorry for your loss!
