Carrie Crawley Smith, 88, of Morganton, NC went home to her precious Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 5, 2010 following a period of declining health. She was born in Burke County, NC on December 9, 1921 to the late Ivey and Ora Glasco Crawley. Carrie was a member of First Apostolic Church and read the Bible daily. She was a retired employee of Holiday Laundry. She loved to sew, bake pies, and was a loving and devoted grandmother.Carrie is survived by her daughter, Linda Brown and husband, James, of Morganton; grandchildren, Billy Joe Gillen of AZ, Marsha Logan of Morganton, and Crystal Harris and husband, Eugene, of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Casey Davis, Brent Gillen, Nathaniel Mitchell, Andrew Harris, Kayla Harris, and Sierra Gillen; a great-great-granddaughter, Peyton Love; a brother, Bill Crawley of Morganton; and sisters, Hettie Santymire, Virginia Pritchard, Louise Toney, and Rachel Brittain, all of Morganton.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garfield Ulysses Smith, and a brother, Albert Crawley.The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at First Apostolic Church with Rev. Danny Baker and Bishop Alvin Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at First Apostolic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Apostolic Church, 325 Drexel Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
