Calvin “Farmer’s Friend” Morrison, 62, of Morganton, NC went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 16, 2021. He was born in Burke County on March 1, 1959 to the late Willie Morrison and Ethel Lingerfelt Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Robert Morrison; grandson, Colton James Monn; brother-in-law, Danny Powell; father-in-law, Leonard Stamey; mother-in-law, Octavia Stamey.

Calvin, owner of Morrison’s Body Shop and Circle M Farms, never met a stranger. He was known to many as “The Farmer’s Friend” always looking for Ford tractors to buy. He passed down his love of farming to Leigh Anne, his daughter. She would ride in the truck with him from the time she was a baby. His greatest love was his precious granddaughters, “Half Pint” and his “adopted” granddaughter, “Princess Peyton.” These girls could bring a smile anytime. They put a joy in his heart like no other. His life wasn’t easy in his later years but he kept struggling along. He survived a heart attack and two strokes but this awful Covid took his life. As many have told us over the last few weeks, he was a pillar in the community always helping people. He will be missed by so many.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Stamey Morrison; daughter, Leigh Anne Monn, of Morganton and “adopted daughter” Casey Abee (Brandon) of Vale, NC; sisters, Elizabeth Allman (Dean) and Debra Powell all of Morganton; grandchildren, Madison Lynne Monn and “adopted” granddaughter, Peyton Love Patrick; nephew, Michael Allman (Candace) of Apex, NC; great-nephew, Justin Allman; great-niece, Alexis Hensley.

Calvin will be available for viewing from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Burke Memorial Park with Pastor Randy Clark and Pastor Dustin Camp officiating.  The service will be streamed on the Facebook for Sossoman Funeral Home (www.facebook.com/sossomanfh).

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

We, the family, would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful nurses and doctors on the progressive unit at UNC Health Blue Ridge (Grace Hospital). An extra special thank you to some special nurses, Leslie Mull, Paula Farris and Kaylee Hayes. We appreciate everything each of you all did.

We would also like to thank our pallbearers, Randy Stamey, Tim Mull, Jimmy Mull, Darryl Bollinger, Clyde Roberts, Brian Ross, Marty Wiseman and Jeff Holland. Honorary pallbearers, Dave Proffitt, Larry Whisnant, Turner Snipes, Cliff Brown, and Dean Lowman. Also thank you to Brett Setzer for playing the banjo, Randy Clark and Dustin Camp for holding services and Jake Gallington for driving the rollback and carrying the tractor for us.

Calvin would want everyone to come as they are to the graveside. So please come as you are and don’t worry about dressing up.

Calvin and I grew up together working for our Dad's businesses that were side by side on East Meeting. I was saddened to hear of his passing. He was truly a good friend.
