Byron Lowdermilk, 59, of Morganton, NC, passed away after a period of declining health on Thursday, July 6, 2023, while surrounded by his family.

Born in Burke County, NC on December 17, 1963, he was the son of Larry Ray Lowdermilk and the late Judy Atha Dockery Lowdermilk.

Byron was a member of Praise Assembly of God and thought a lot of Rev. Kevin Crawford. He enjoyed tinkering, spending time outdoors, and creative woodworking. Mr. Lowdermilk loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Byron is survived by his daughter, Taylor Lowdermilk; sons, Jonathan Lowdermilk (Brittany) and Steven Lowdermilk (Chesley); grandchildren, A’Jontay, Davion, Braleigh, Sway, Pyper, Parker, Kimberly, Dadrian, Kalani, and Kimora; great-granddaughter, Amelia; sister, Tara Conrad (Scott); brother, Rodney Lowdermilk; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his mother, Byron was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Gladys Dockery and Ed and Dora Lowdermilk.

Services for Mr. Lowdermilk will be private.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Medi Home Hospice and UNC Blue Ridge for the compassionate care shown to Byron.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Byron was in my 5th grade class at Glen Alpine Elementary School. He was a very kind and well- liked young man. He had a terrible bike accident and had to have his teeth wired together. He went over the handle bars. I send prayers and condolences to his family. Jackie Ward
