Bobby Ray Thompson, 89, of Morganton, NC passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Born on August 8, 1935, in Burke County, NC, he was the son of the late William and Bessie Thompson. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired from Great Lakes Carbon after 42 years. Bob was a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid hunter and gardener and loved spending time with his family. He was most proud of being a grandpaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bobby leaves behind a sister, Nina Anderson; daughter, Tracy Dale; son, Rodney Thompson; grandsons, Trent Lee Thompson (Amber), Riley Vance Thompson; great-grandchildren Griffin Ray Thompson and Abigail Grace Thompson; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jettie Thompson.
A graveside service will be held at 11am, Monday, April 21, 2025 at Burke Memorial Park.
Military honors provided by the NC National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family
