Bill D. Daniels, 73, of Burke Dr., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC following a period of declining health. He was born January 24, 1933 in Avery County, NC, and was a son of the late Charlie H. Daniels and Mamie Barlow Daniels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Daniels; and sisters, Evelyn Costea, Margie Gruber, Blanche Pritchard, and Avis Daniels. Bill served with the US Army Combat Engineers in the Korean War, and retired in 1991 from Broughton Hospital after 30 years of service.

Mr. Daniels is survived by his wife, Betty Gold Deviney Daniels of the home; sons, David Daniels and wife, Donna of Crossnore, NC, and Mark Daniels and wife, Nancy of Greenville, SC; daughters, Lisa Mackay and husband, Jeff, Kathy Zimmerman and husband, John, all of Morganton, and Susanne Eaton and husband, Wayne, of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Melissa Daniels, Luke Daniels, Michael, Adam, and Taylor Mackay, John and Clint Zimmerman, and Rachel, Aaron, and Justin Eaton; a sister, Reba B. Miller and husband, Bob of Millersport, OH; brothers-in-law, John Costea and Jim Gruber, both of Ohio; aunts, Myrtle Chapman of Drexel, NC, and Pearl Mull of Autumn Care of Drexel; a "very special" sister-in-law, Mary Sue Price of Lawndale, NC, many dear nieces, nephews, and friends; and his special feline companion, Jazz.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2006 at North Morganton United Methodist Church with the Reverends Tony Matthews, Paul Christy, and John C. Woods, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. Memorial contributions may be made to North Morganton United Methodist Church, 990 Sanford Dr., Morganton, NC 28655.
