Bettye F. Lay

Bettye F. Lay, 57, of Valdese, NC began her great adventure on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at her residence. She was surrounded by friends and family when she left. Born on November 14, 1953 to Bob and Frances Lay, she had lived in Morganton for most of her life.Left to remember the life here are her brother, Douglas, with wife, Luanne, in Salt Lake City; her children, Emily Castelow, with husband, David, and Jonathan Hipps, both of the Outer Banks; granddaughters, Kristen and Ashley Castelow; and her best friend, spouse, and the love of her life, Katherine McCall of Drexel.Bettye was lucky enough to find two careers that she loved. She spent many years working in the health care field, from CNA to Administrator. Her residents loved her bright, caring spirit. It would be difficult to say who gained the most from their interactions.In 2006 Bettye embarked on her next career as a real estate agent. In 2009 she, along with her business partner, Louis Pugh, began Key Property Associates. At a time when everyone else would have run from that business, she jumped in with both feet and the business has tripled in size. She was very proud of "her baby".A celebration of Bettye’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Costner officiating.
