Betty Williams Bennett

Betty Williams Bennett, 82, of Drexel, NC died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Grace Hospital following an extended illness. She was born August 24, 1926 in Burke County, NC and was a daughter of the late Bryant C. Williams and Donnie Lou Williams. Betty was a member of Drexel Memorial Baptist Church, and a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishings with over 47 years of service. Betty had a great love for family and friends and cherished the time spent together.Betty is survived by sons, Gary Bennett and wife, Nancy, of Morganton, and Jim Bennett and wife, Becky, of Washington, NC; a daughter, Gail Powell and husband, Denny, of Drexel; a sister, Charlene Fletcher of Drexel; a sister-in-law, Marzelle Brinkley of Drexel; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gurden "Spud" Bennett; sisters, Emma Lee Carswell, Nancy Mitchem, and Margaret Powell; and a brother, B. C. Williams.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie LeFevers officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Gail Powell in Greentree Acres, Valdese, NC.
