Betty McGalliard Fleming, 82, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center. Born in Burke County, NC on December 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James Avery McGalliard and Lyda Arney McGalliard. Betty was a former member of Calvin Heights Baptist Church and was currently a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church. She worked for over 35 years at Shadowline, Inc. and enjoyed flowers, quilting, reading, and spending time with her family.Betty is survived by her daughter, Beverly Roland of Morganton; a grandson, Gregory Allen Tuttle of Marysville, WA; great-grandchildren, Brandon Allen Tuttle and Christine Marie Tuttle; siblings, Clyde McGalliard and his wife, Shirley, of Glen Alpine, John McGalliard and his wife, Faye, of Morganton, Mary May of Glen Alpine, and Grace McGalliard of Glen Alpine; nephews and nieces, Ailene and Joe Cooper, Edna Scott, Ruby and Leroy Huffman, Susan and Paul Snider, Terri Piercy, Connie and Robin Hallyburton, Eva Leigh Moses and Greg Barrier, Tammy and Russell McGalliard, Glenda Johnson, Sonya Fleming, Lynn and Geraldine May, Danny and Vera May, Jeff May, Bryan and Angie Anderson, Chris "Mo" McGalliard, Eddie McGalliard, Avery and Wendy McGalliard, and Doug Fleming; and brothers-in-law, Benjamin Fleming and his wife, Margaret, Forest Fleming and his wife, Nancy, and Robert Fleming and his wife, Irene.In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Frank Jones Fleming; a brother, James "Bud’ McGalliard; a sister-in-law, Mary Franklin; sisters, Sarah Mae Johnson and her husband, Lewis "Red", Louise Anderson and her husband, Dayton; a brother-in-law, Arvil May; a niece, Rhonda Fleming; and nephews, Jerry "Jock" Johnson, Robert "Bob" Piercy, and Ronnie Scott.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Asheville Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Goforth officiating. Burial will follow in Bridge 42 (formerly Calvin Heights) Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
