Betty M. Ratcliff, 93 of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Born on July 13, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Grace Nell Cook.
Betty was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. She worked as a Teachers Assistant at the North Carolina School for the Deaf. Betty loved to watch her children and grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed traveling to the beach and Cherokee. Betty was a loving and caring mother who would do anything for her children.
Betty is survived by her children, Anthony “Tony” Ratcliff (Debbie Moose), Dana Ratcliff (Pat), Danny Ratcliff (Edie), Carol Clark (Bucky), Rhonda French, Rocky Ratcliff; siblings, Ava Stilwell (Jim), Hilda Wirt, Ronald Cook; 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Winifred C Ratcliff; sister, Patricia Davis; brother, Charles Cook.
The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3pm, Sunday, July 12, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 3pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Robinson officiating. Burial will be held at noon, Monday, July 13, 2026 at Highland Memorial Garden in Dublin, Virginia.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Dear Tony and the Ratcliff family, My deepest sympathy to all of you on the passing of your beloved mother. Betty was a remarkable woman whose love for her family was reflected in everything she did. She also loved her work and faithfully served for many years at the North Carolina School for the Deaf, touching countless lives with her kindness and dedication. My mother and Betty shared a beautiful friendship that was more like sisterhood. Through the years, they stood by one another with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their bond was a true blessing, and I know my mother treasured every moment of their friendship. Although our hearts are saddened by her passing, we also rejoice in knowing that she is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Winfred. What a beautiful reunion that must be. Betty leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, friendship, and service that will continue to live on through each of you and through the many lives she touched. Betty was a devoted friend and fellow worker. She was always jovial and fun to be with, while being very caring for the children she loved and wanted to help in any way she could.

Dear family, I worked with Betty for many years at the NC School for the Deaf. Betty was the administrative assistant for Principal Betty Henderson. B. Ratcliff was wonderful to the children and all of us who worked with her at Rankin Hall. Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your loved one.
