Betty Lou Head, 97, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Born in Knox County, TN on January 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ethel Clevenger.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dearly loved her family.

Betty found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending hours crocheting beautiful patterns, creating unique crafts, and sharing her creations with those around her. Her artistry was not limited to her hands; it extended to her heart as she joyously organized trips with friends to create unforgettable memories.

An avid shopper and frequent visitor to fish-camps, Betty embraced adventure and connection, harnessing every opportunity to strengthen the bonds with her loved ones. Her love for cooking was legendary, she delighted in preparing mouthwatering meals and ensuring that no one who entered her home ever left hungry.

Betty is survived by her grandchildren, Dawn Pitman, Chanda Barnett, Teresa Head Treadway, Kevin Head, Tammy Head, and Darren Head; thirteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Janice Head; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Waldon Edgar Head; children, Gerald Head, JoAnn Head, and Kenneth Head; grandchildren, Scott McGalliard and Christina Pritchard; a great-grandson, Theron Poteet; and daughter-in-law, Wilma Head.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at noon in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Rocky Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Bridge42 Cemetery (formerly Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery).

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I know she will be missed greatly and her passing will leave an empty place in many hearts. I never never knew her well, but I know my father, her brother, loved her deeply.
