Betty Benfield Gibbs, 85, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on February 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James Rufus Benfield and Ella Ann Anthony Benfield. Betty was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and she enjoyed dancing, crocheting, and being with friends.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Peggy Ann Wilson of Morganton; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jackie Ollis.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Olen A. Gibbs; 2 sons, Clarence and Ronnie Gibbs; 2 brothers, Clarence and Guy Stamey; 3 sisters, Barbara Franklin, Beulah Durham, and Margaret Powell; and an infant brother.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Salem United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Norman E. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
