Bessie Epley Pritchard, 93, of Morganton, NC, answered the call of the Lord on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 while surrounded by her family.

Born in Burke County, NC on December 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Walter Epley and Ida Moses Epley. Bessie was a loyal member of McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church. She was more caring, generous, and open-hearted than any other woman could be. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed. “Until we meet again, sweet Ninny.”

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sheila Bumgarner (Robert); grandchildren, Chris Bumgarner (Regina), Scott Bumgarner (Shenia), Rodney Bumgarner (Dawn), and Robin Smith (Jason); great-grandchildren, Wesley Bumgarner, Sara Pearson, Haley Shelton, Sam Bumgarner, Kelsey Edgerton, and Jacob Smith; and great-great-grandchildren, Aspen Bumgarner, Holley Pearson, Ashley Edgerton, Waylon Shelton, Lennox Bumgarner, and Lawson Shelton.

In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Lloyd Samuel Pritchard.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024 at McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Rev. Dennis Carswell officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
