Bessie Ann Huffman (Pritchard), 83, of Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Born in Burke County, NC on July 19, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Lorrena Pritchard.
Bessie was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, and she expressed her love for the Lord every day. She was a friend to all and never met a stranger. Bessie was a loving grandma, aunt, sister and friend. She enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, attending bluegrass festivals, camping and fishing, but most of all she cherished time spent with her family and friends. Bessie was always the light of the room and everyone’s ray of sunshine.
Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Ashley Carpenter (Ambrose), Athena Johnson (Jonathan), Adeline Steele and Allison Steele; daughter-in-law, Michelle Steele; great-grandchildren, Kayla Duckworth, Macie Duckworth, Andrew Duckworth and Zoe Johnson; niece, Diane Fruend (Mark) and their children Jessica (Matt) and Bryan Fruend; nephew, Henry Belada (Suzanne) and their children (Molly and Emily); nephew, Allen Hudson (Beth); sister-in-law Evelyn Hunt; and many other cherished nieces, nephews and family friends.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Huffman; son, Joel Carpenter; brothers, James, Jessie Jr., and Simon Pritchard; and sisters, Vernia, Sadie, Mary Louise, Ruby, Minnie, Katie Sue, Virgie, Irene, Margaret, and Emma Jean.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Sunnyside Baptist Church with Rev. Clint Ewing officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

You will always be a shining light in my heart and memories. From the first day that Jessica introduced me to you, you stole my heart. I will always love and miss you very much aunt Bessie. But it soothes me soul knowing that you are no longer in pain but you are in heaven bringing light and joy to everybody up there. I love and miss you already.
