Bernice Quary Tuttle, 93, of Morganton, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Born in Hawkins County, TN on September 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Bert A. Quary and Elizabeth Leona Brewer Quary.
Bernice was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She was a teacher at the North Carolina School for the Deaf from 1963 until 1987. Mrs. Tuttle was a long-time member of the Morganton Pilot Club and a founder of the Table Rock AARP for the Deaf.
Bernice is survived by her son, Marvin Augustus Tuttle (Ginger); daughter, Sandra Lee Florell; grandchildren, Benjamin Kenneth Florell (Pui), Augustus Eugene Tuttle, and Hannah Bernice Tuttle; great-grandson, Russell Florell; sisters, Billie Trent (Don), Bertalee Quary, and Janice Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Odie Tuttle.
Services for Bernice will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

So sorry for your loss. Bernice was friends with my mom who passed in 2016. They wrote letters back and forth. I carried on the tradition and continued to write back to Bernice. I miss her. I just learned of her passing. She was a wonderful person.
Bernice Tuttle was one of the finest ladies I have ever known. She was so caring and always looking outward to see whom she could bless. God bless you, Sandra and Gus and your families.

Gus and Sandra I was so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was such a lovely lady. So many wonderful memories of her being such a good friend to my mother. I could walk into my mothers kitchen each Wednesday knowing that your mom had been there because they were some lovely dishes on the kitchen counter. You two can be so proud of yourselves for taking wonderful care of her in her later years.
Dear loved ones. Bernice was such a caring person and I loved the opportunities to have conversation with her. We often talked of our Christian faith and the hope of eternal life we have. Heaven has most certainly gained a saint. May our loving Lord wrap His arms around all the family and friends who loved Bernice dearly.

I only met Bernice once for a few days, but knew of her for 40 years through her daughter Sandra. We communicated by cards at Christmas and Birthday. She was such a lovely lady. Very kind and welcoming to me. Such a trooper. I was sorry to hear of her passing but now she will be with the Lord.
