Bernard Gordon

Bernard Gordon, 60, of Morganton died Monday, August 26, 2013. He was born in Burke County on August 24, 1953 and was a son of Edna Deal Gordon Lail of Morganton and the late Jacob Gordon. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Myra Deal. As a former band director in Guilford County, Bernard had a great love of music. He played the trumpet and was a member of the City Rhythm Jazz Band of Morganton and the Sylvio Martinat Band of Lenoir. He enjoyed golf, browsing flea markets, and collecting clocks. Bernard was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Searchers Sunday School Class, and he volunteered at Forest Hill and Mull Elementary Schools.In addition to his mother, Bernard is survived by his wife, Margaret Ollis Gordon; his daughter, Katie Gordon; a brother, James Gordon and his wife, Jane, of Morganton; uncles, Russell Deal and his wife, Lillian of Glen Alpine and Ken Ervin Deal of Valdese; and numerous cousins.Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Conforti officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
