Benny Pendley, 81, of Morganton, NC, passed away to his heavenly home Monday, May 1, 2023.

Born in Mitchell County, NC on July 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Theo Pendley and Ella Mae McClellan Pendley.

Benny was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a former member of Calvary Assembly of God where he played guitar, piano, bass guitar, organ, and was very passionate about his church. He retired from Drexel Furniture Plant #3 with over 50 years of service. Benny would help anyone in need and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed going to Pigeon Forge, and he loved get in the kitchen and cook with his wife.

Mr. Pendley is survived by his wife of 20 years, Becky Chapman Pendley; sons, Benjamin “Keith” Pendley and Leonard Chapman; daughters, Gloria Thomas, Melody Little (Nevin), Melissa Pendley, and Tracy Chapman; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Phillip Thomas Yavonda Little, Angel Rojo, LaCosta Sproles, Destiny Little, Scott Little, Toby Pendley, Kayla Pendley, and Hannah Pleasants; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, John Henry Pendley (Regina) and David Pendley (Elizabeth); sisters, Mable Loven and Sue Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Pendley; four brothers, Paul, Jessie, Robert “Buster”, and Jay Pendley; two sisters, Jean Thomas and Beulah Pendley; and former wife, Jean Ellen Pendley.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023 at Pleasant Gove Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Douglas Price officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I'm so sorry to hear of Benny's passing. Just found out today(Sunday) or I would have been at his service. I knew him most my life along with his brother Buster. We grew up around them. Went to church with them and will surely always carry fond memories of them both. My heartfelt condolences to the family
