Ben Irvin Greene, 92 of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends, Saturday, December 29, 2018. Born on July 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Thomas W. Greene and Beatrice Evelyn Griffin Greene.

Ben attended Oak Forest United Methodist Church from 1954-2010. He was the sponsor of the Mary Taylor Greene Scholarship which has awarded 121 scholarships. Ben was the chairman of the Board of Directors at Camp McCall. He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the South Pacific from December 1944 to December 1946. Ben worked at the North Carolina School for the Deaf on the farm and later drove for Signal Delivery Service.

Ben is survived by his grandson, Jeremiah Lee Barnes (Teresa); sisters, Loucile G. Murray, Etta G. Tuck; daughter, Ellen Taylor Juban (Jim); daughter-in-law, Kaye Taylor; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown (Joe), Nathan Taylor (Jenny), Wesley Taylor, Matthew Juban (Myra) of Seoul, South Korea, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-granddaughters, and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family, and his family at Abele’s Family Restaurant. There will be a special place reserved for any Mary Taylor Greene Scholarship recipients to be seated.

In addition to his parents, Ben is preceded in death by his first wife, Ava Lee Greene, second wife, Mary Taylor Greene; daughter, Helen Greene Barnes; sister, Myrtis G. Moore, Ollie G. Moody; son, Larry Taylor.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Les Cartwright officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
