Beatrice Abernathy Denton, 96, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Born in Burke County, NC on April 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Foster Abernathy and Bertha Mace Abernathy.

Mrs. Denton was a 62 year member of Mt. Home Baptist Church. She was involved with church missions, the bereavement committee, the prayer chain, and anything else the church asked of her. She enjoyed working outside and shopping, but she loved spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sherry Denton Addison (Joel); son, Mark Denton (Judy); grandchildren, Lori Whisnant Covalinski, Steve Denton (Joyce), Aric Whisnant (Debra), Holly Denton, Adam Denton (Amber), and Jennifer Addison Parker (Greg); thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Nell Griffin and Carolyn Powell; and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Riddle Denton; son, Nelson Denton; sisters, Orene Abernathy, Elise Powell, and Nadine Whitley; and brothers, Ray Abernathy, Rob Abernathy, and Ike Abernathy.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at noon in the church with Rev. Ethan Cromer officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
