Barbara Steiner Mustoe, 80, of Valdese, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Born in Flint, Michigan on April 25, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Arthur Steiner and Beatrice Vivian Chapman Steiner.
Barbara was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In recent years, she and her husband were members at Burkemont Baptist Church. The family rejoices that she is with her savior, Jesus Christ.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 55 years, Joseph Kenneth Mustoe; brothers, Richard Steiner, David Steiner, Al Steiner, Jr. (Linda), Stan Steiner (Erlinda), and Steve Steiner; sister-in-law, Lillian Mustoe Whetzel; brother-in-law, Edward Mustoe (Colleen); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2026 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Dr. Luke Lane officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burkemont Baptist Church or to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Barbara’s friends at Icard Elementary School, Grace Hospital, and Valdese Weavers.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mrs. Mustoe was my kindergarten teacher many years ago at Icard and what a great teacher she was. I know Heaven received a wonderful person. Sending my prayers to the family.

My Aunt Barbara was the epitome of grace and charm. She had a way of making you feel so loved and appreciated, always sending cards on special occasions which included a long written letter in the neatest handwriting. Our visits over the years were few across many states, but she was just a phone call away, and loved to be updated on our lives. I enjoyed her stories of all her friends and church activities... she never stopped working for our Lord. She will be missed by all, but our loss is Heaven's gain.

So sorry to see that another one of our Grace Hospital Angel's that used to work in dietary there has passed. Barbara was such a sweet lady, kind and humble with a smile on her face. Among many other things I will always remember Barbara for her dedication and faithfulness to our Sunday School class, for her note taking during class, for her love for the scriptures, for all the cards of encouragement for healing she sent during my recovery. and most of all for her prayers. I was amazed and blessed with her impeccable calligraphy talent and thought she printed even more professionally than the original messages on the cards. We love Barbara and Ken, and they always lifted my spirits when they walked into our class. Now I will look forward to Ken walking into the room and lifting my spirits and to seeing Barbara when we meet again. I
