Ava Lentz Turner, child of God, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, June 13, 2016 after a 22 year on and off battle with cancer.

Ava was born in Hickory, NC to Cullen Lentz and Helen Beach Lentz, both of whom have predeceased her.  She is survived by her cheerleader, protector, best friend and husband of 32 years, Richard B. Turner, and their 3 precious setters, Molly, Katie and Duchess.

Shortly after completing her degrees at NC State, Ava began her banking career in Charlotte at First Union National Bank, when the entire staff was like family.  After 35 years, she retired from then Wachovia and moved with her family to Lake James.

Ava’s smile and joy of living brightened our days.  She had many passions in her life, particularly children, animals and the environment.   When in Charlotte, she was active as a Sunday school and Confirmation teacher, youth advisor, Big Sister, tutor, reader to all ages.  Her work with rescue dogs helped dozens of dogs find safe, loving homes.  She and Richard spearheaded the annual Sweet Lucy's Affair fundraiser for Foothills Conservancy of NC, introducing many people at Lake James to their work, and raising significant funds for their operating budget.  But her deepest passion was for Biblical storytelling, introducing people to the scriptures’ power by simply telling it from the heart.  She said it was a gift from God and she touched many hearts in special ways with her tellings.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Morganton with the Reverend Michael Bailey and the Reverend Dr. Bob Lowry officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Ava asked that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 100 Silver Creek Rd,  Morganton, NC 28655, Foothills Conservatory of NC, PO Box 3023, Morganton, NC 28680, or ACES (Another Chance for English Setters) c/o Pat Bonetti, Secretary/Treasurer, 51 Louden Road, Saco, ME 04072.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
