Arturo "Papa" Campero Flores, 42, of North St., Morganton, NC died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at his residence following a lengthy battle with ALS. Born on September 1, 1963 in Mexico, he was a son of the late Mario Campero Flores and Severina Flores Tellez. He was a retired employee of Valdese Manufacturing and a former employee of Case Farms. Arturo was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9579. He played basketball while in college in Mexico and enjoyed playing in the area industrial basketball leagues.

Surviving are his wife, Becky Harbison Campero of the home; sons, Arturo Campero, Jr. and Mario Campero both of the home; daughters, Severina Campero and Stephein Conley both of the home; brothers, Bruno Campero of Hidalgo, Mexico and Mario Campero of Mexico City; a sister, Eleuteria Campero of Hidalgo, Mexico; and a niece and nephews, Oyuki Vargas and Joaquin and Juanito Campero; and a great nephew, Carlo Vargas, all of Mexico.

The funeral mass will be said at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Rev. Kenneth Whittington and Pastor Barry Camp officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence, 103 North St. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Burke Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to The Campero Children’s Education Fund, c/o St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 728 West Union St., Morganton, NC 28655.
