Anthony Earl “Tony” Causby, 58, died Thursday, March 28, 2019 at his home. He was born January 13, 1961 in Burke County to Shirley Delphine Hayes Causby and the late Earl McDowell Causby. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Morganton, where he was a past youth group leader and youth Sunday School teacher. He was a little league coach through the Morganton Recreation Department. Tony coached his sons in traveling baseball and basketball. He graduated from Freedom High School and Pfeiffer University where he played baseball all four years earning the title of MVP and All Conference. In 2016, he was inducted into the Pfeiffer University Sports Hall of Fame. In 2017, Patton High School established the Patton Causby Classic Baseball Tournament, in his honor, to raise money for ALS awareness. Most recently, Patton’s new indoor batting cage was given the name of the Causby Baseball Facility in his honor. Tony worked at the family business, Causby Automotive, where he had a lifelong passion for helping others in buying and selling cars.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Shirley Harmon.

In addition to his mother, Tony is survived by his wife, Karen Harmon Causby; sons, Ty and Tripp Causby; brother, Tod Causby; father-in-law, Lowell Harmon.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dana McKim, Robert Roach, Jim Marsh, Paul Thompson, and Ed and Kathleen Kilbourne officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Burke Hospice, especially Angela, Laura, Pam and Joetta, for their kind and compassionate care. The overwhelming sense of love and support the Causby family has received from their community of friends has been such a blessing.
