Annie Mae Harmon Goodnight, 92, of Bethel Street, Morganton, NC died Monday, December 4, 2006 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Goodnight became known affectionately as Nite-Nite to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She was born in Cleveland County, NC on October 4, 1914 and was a daughter of the late William Columbus Harmon and Ava Gettus Moss Harmon of Cleveland County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Soundra Kay Hoyle, by her husband, Dale Leonard Goodnight, a brother, Earl Haywood Harmon, and by a sister, Alpha Harmon Jenkins. Mrs. Goodnight retired from Broughton Hospital after 40 years of service, and she was a long time member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Ernest Paul Harmon, and his wife, Gertrude, of Chattanooga, TN; a son, Charles Leonard Goodnight, and his wife, Dian, of Morganton and their son, Michael Gassmann Goodnight, and his wife, Emma, of Mt. View, NC; daughter, Patricia Krewson, of Newport, NC and her daughters, Melody Kay Bennett and her husband, Craig, of Cocoa Beach, FL and their children, Crystal Ann and Craig Thomas; Michelle Ann Mills and her husband, Stuart, of Newport, NC and their children, Alexis Kalynn and Kirby Lee, Sherri Lynn Garner and her husband, Clayton, Jr., of Newport, NC and their children, Brandon Lee Scronce and Sydney Leigh Scronce; daughter, Billie Sue Duckworth, and her husband, Kenny, of Morganton and their children, Donna Jean Duckworth, and her son, Joshua Paul McLamb, Kenneth Jerome Duckworth and his children, Katelyn Victoria, Lauren Danielle, Luke Kenneth, and Laccee Sara; son, Gary Walter Goodnight, of the home; Soundra’s husband, Dock Hoyle, Jr. of Connelly Springs, and their children, Jennifer Renee’ Cook and her husband, Rodney of Hickory, NC and their children, Kalie Renee’ and William Austin, and Adam Wesley Hoyle of Connelly Springs and his son, Wesley Adam. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Allen P. Boliek officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Billie and Kenny Duckworth, 3873 Laurel Heights Dr., Morganton; Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 201 Shady Rest Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
