Annie Catherine Orders Rhodes, 86, of Morganton, NC, died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Noah Arthur Orders and Faye Giles Orders. Annie Catherine attended Glen Alpine High School and Queens College in Charlotte. She married her beloved husband, Murray Toney Rhodes on June 9, 1951.

Annie Catherine touched many lives during her 25 years in the classroom at Glen Alpine Elementary School. She loved everyone, and was known for her kindness and thoughtfulness, but, above all, she loved her family and her church. She was a lifelong, active member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. She received the Laity Award in recognition of her faithfulness and service to the church. Annie Catherine taught Sunday school classes and kept the children’s nursery for many years. She served as an Annual Conference delegate to the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Board of Trustees, and over the years she served as a communion steward and on the Administrative Board. She was a member of the Afternoon Inspiration Group of the United Methodist Women. She also was a charter member of the Glen Alpine Women’s Club, a past member of the Morganton Lioness Club, and a member of Mimosa Chapter 269 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Annie Catherine is survived by her husband of 65 years, Murray Rhodes; daughter, Faye Rhodes Hinshaw and husband, David, of Charlotte, NC; sons, Noah Rhodes of Morganton, NC, William Rhodes and wife, Mary of Greenville, NC; granddaughters, Elizabeth Hinshaw, Meredith Hinshaw, Catherine Rhodes Logan, Ashley McFalls Lane, Kerri McFalls Blackburn, Caroline Rhodes and Anna Rhodes; and a number of great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Annie’s life will follow in the church sanctuary at 11:00am with the Rev. Barbara Mayo and Rev. Tom Beall officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Glen Alpine Cemetery.
