Amy Lockard Mikusa, 93, died peacefully in her home Tuesday, September 1, 2015.  Born in Mineral City, Ohio on April 9, 1922, she was the daughter of the late George and Chloe Lockard, and raised by her grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oberlin.  Before moving with her husband to Morganton, North Carolina to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and only grandchild, Amy and Edward, Sr. lived in Canton, OH. They co-owned Canton Venetian Shade.  While in Canton, Amy was an active member in the Methodist Church, Junior Chamber of Commerce, and studied interior decorating.  She and Ed. Sr. raised their two children, Edward Jr. and Paula in Cambridge, OH.  Being community minded, Amy served on the Girl Scouts of America and the YMCA board for many years, and was an avid member of the Cambridge Little Theater.

Amy enjoyed dancing with her husband of 65 years, Big Band music, golfing with friends, and supporting the Ohio State Buckeyes.  While living in Columbus, OH, she and Ed Sr. spent many happy Saturdays at OSU tailgating with friends, cheering the Bucks to victory.

Morganton became home for Amy in 2003 where she was immediately accepted into the community.  She joined the First United Methodist Church and volunteered at Grace Hospital until failing health curtailed her activities.

She is survived by her son, Edward Paul Mikusa, Jr. and wife, Melanie of Morganton; daughter, Paula Hauck of Las Vegas, Nevada; and granddaughter, Flannery Mikusa of Asheville, NC.

In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Paul Mikusa, Sr.; and sisters, Mary Pariano, Elizabeth Benik, and Ruth Mulheim.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church Gathering Hall.  The memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the church with the Reverend Dr. John Fowler officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, http://www.alzfdn.org.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
