Alta O. Cannon

Alta O. Cannon, 60, of Morganton died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at her residence. Born Oct. 19, 1950 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth R. Cannon and Nellie Bennett Cannon. In addition to her parents, Alta was preceded in death by brothers, John, Billy, and Marshall; and sisters, Frances, Charlotte, Cynthia, and Katrida. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Morganton, and a retired employee of Sherrill’s Furniture.Alta is survived by a brother, Donald Cannon of Granite Falls; and a sister, LaVerne Adkins of Durham.A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Alter’s Gate Chapel of First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Sydnor Thompson, III officiating. Interment of the ashes will follow in the church’s columbarium. The family will receive friends immediately after the interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, 200 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
