Albert Landon Suttle, Sr., 70, of Suttle Street, Morganton, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at his residence following a period of several months of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on August 22, 1936, he was the son of the late James Martin Suttle and Ethel Mae Saunders Suttle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ervin, Edward, and Dwight Suttle; sisters, Colleen Burns and Carrie Penley; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Albert was a very active member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church which he loved dearly. He had also been a deacon, taught Sunday School, and had been a member of the church choir. Mr. Suttle was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Drexel Heritage after 20+ year and was a master carpenter and painter. He was a past member of the Board of Directors for Brentwood Water and also a past member of the Board of Director for the Salem Ruritan.

Albert is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Mattie Johnson Suttle of the home; a son, Albert L. Suttle, Jr. and wife, Shelly, of Morganton; daughters, Pam Long and husband, Mike, Kim Eller and husband, Jeff, and Tira Duckworth and husband, Shawn, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Tori Braswell and husband, Chad, Fallon Hensley, Clint Duckworth, Shawna Duckworth, Kyle Rhoney, and Caitlyn Rhoney; a great-grandchild, Taylor Hensley; brothers, Darrel Suttle of Morganton; sisters, Mabel Beverin and husband, Mark, of Biloxi, MS, Nell Barnette of Biloxi, and Bertie Braswell of Morganton; a number of special nieces and nephews of the Penley family; and Walter Tullos.

The funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Life Enrichment Center at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites to be performed by American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends in the L.E.C. two hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Missionary Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 5612 John Watts Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or the Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hospice Staff, Blue Ridge Home Health Care, Wanda Mull, Dr. Abernathy, Dr. Stutesman, Dr. Brazinski, and Dr. Tomlinson.
