Committal
Agnes Whisenant, 85, of Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Born in Burke County, NC on March 23, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Conley Washington Powell and Dorothy M. Scott Powell.
Agnes devoted herself to providing round-the-clock care of her son, Tony, for 37 years. No detail was too small and it allowed Tony to live at home until his passing. She loved watching church online every Sunday with him. She also enjoyed being outside, either gardening or taking care of the yard. Agnes loved and embraced people, and she never met a stranger.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Karen Clark; and a number of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who loved her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her son, Tony Whisenant.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Grace Baptist Church. A memorial service in memory of Agnes will follow at 4 p.m. in the church with Rev. Marty Bess officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or to Amorem Hospice.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I loved Agnes dearly. She was the sweetest. We worked together at K-mart. She was the best Mother, and loved Tony and Karen dearly. Friend you will be missed.
Karen I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I just seen this online tonight or I sure would have came to pay my respect. She was always so good to me whenever I was at your house. Also let us get by with alot of things . She was so dedicated in taking such good care of Tony. Whenever I did see her out usually at food lion we would stand and get caught up on life. She was such a wonderful person that I myself will look forward to seeing on the other side. May she rest in peace until then. Debbie
