Jeffrey Ray Moses

May 22, 1965 to Dec. 28, 2019

Jeffrey Ray Moses, 54, departed this life to enter his Heavenly home on Saturday, December 28, 2019. He was born on May 22, 1965 to Rev. Jack R. Moses and the late Gladys Patton Moses. Although Jeff was sick for many years and had multiple health issues, his death was unexpected and leaves a major void in the lives of his family. When his health allowed, Jeff attended Grace Baptist Church where his family attends but grew up in Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Although he was sick, Jeff tried to be funny and loved being a prankster, especially to his sisters. In spite of his health, Jeff always made sure his wife and girls knew they were loved. He retired from the City of Morganton in 2002. He was fondly called “Moe” by his co-workers. Jeff was a firefighter at Brendletown Fire and Rescue for over 20 years where he served as Chief for 12 years.

Jeff had recently learned he was going to become a grandpa for the first time and he was eagerly looking forward to spoiling baby Lowdermilk.

In addition to his mother, Jeff was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Velma Davis, his grandparents and a niece and nephew.

Along with his father, those left to cherish his memory are his loving and supportive wife of 35 years, Pamela Davis Moses; daughters, Amanda Moses Hewitt and husband, J.P. and Samantha Moses Lowdermilk and husband, Jonathan. Also surviving are his sisters and their spouses, Dianne Sparks (Dirk), Debbie Bess (Mel) and Donna Davis (Randy). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews of whom niece, Heather Mayfield was his god-daughter. Jeff was like a dad to some of his nephews and nieces. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and other family members including his wife’s brothers and sisters and their families. Additionally, Jeff is survived by his long-time childhood friend, James Brown, whom he thought of like a brother. Jeff also leaves behind his sweet canine, Tiny. He loved all of his pets.

Jeff’s best friend was Dr. Mark McManus. Jeff loved him and his family so much. Many thanks to Dr. Mark, his family and staff for the care, love and support administered to Jeff over the years.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Bess, Rev. Devin Hildebrand and Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home of Jack Moses.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
