Michael “Mike” Grant McGimsey

Michael “Mike” Grant McGimsey, 72 of Morganton, NC passed away, Friday May 13, 2022. Born on August 12, 1949, he was the son of the late Carl and Margaret McGimsey. Mike was of the Baptist faith. He served in the Navy on the USS Charleston. Mike had a great since of humor and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed playing golf and hosting card games with his friends. His family was most important to him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lynn Anderson McGimsey; daughter, Tonya Wilson (Randy); grandchildren, Taressa Davis (Austin), Caroline Clabaugh (Paxton); siblings, Cathy Fisher (Eddie), Rick McGimsey (Ms. Jan), Kim Mull (Mike), Darnell Dietrich (Jerry), Steve Woody (Wilma), Shelia Little (Bryan), David Woody (Janice); feline companions, Oscar and Allie; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margaret McGimsey, Nell McGimsey, Frank and Frances Woody; brother, Steven McGimsey; nephew, Curtis Majors.
The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3pm, Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home at 3pm with the Rev. Dan Greene officiating. Military honors provided by the US Navy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
