Zula Walker Orders, 101, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on September 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Nelson Walker and Alcie Chapman Walker.

Zula was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church. She was very involved in church activities at various churches including Mull’s Grove Baptist Church, Burkemont Baptist Church, and Calvin Heights Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved the Lord and her family. Zula was the last survivor of the school that was located at Walker Top and her grandfather fought in the Civil War. She enjoyed taking care of her home and cooking, especially for family reunions and church functions.

Zula is survived by her son, Jack David Orders (Eva); step-grandson, Khem Cataylo; and cousins, Gary Walker, Nelson Walker, and Amy Walker.

In addition to her parents, Zula was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Wilson Orders; brothers, Joe, Joel, June, John, Boston, Wade, Aaron, and Ervin Walker; and sisters, Zela Walker, Bunia Carswell, and Candace Spencer.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2024 at Asheville Street Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Doug Goforth officiating. Burial will follow in Burkemont Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
