Zenna Norman Poteat, 90, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her God and her husband on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Born in Burke County, NC on February 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Dixon Norman and Martha Cordelia Watts Norman.

Zenna was a member of Mull’s Grove Baptist Church for over 73 years where she taught Sunday school, was a children’s church worker, served as secretary for the Sunday school, and was a choir member. She was a prayer warrior for many people. Mrs. Poteat ran an in-home daycare for many years where she shared her loved with many children. Zenna enjoyed crochet, feeding birds and squirrels, and working in her flowers. She was a devoted, Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family and church.

Mrs. Poteat is survived by her children, Larry Poteat (Faye), Billy Poteat (Regenia), and Ruthie Roper (Randy); grandchildren, Joshua Poteat (Kerri), Matthew Poteat (Erica), Andrew Poteat (Stephanie), Thomas Andrews (Sharon), Daniel Andrews (girlfriend, Sydney), and Zack Roper (Laura); great-grandchildren, Maggie Poteat, Dawson Poteat, Bethany Rose Andrews, William Thomas Andrews, and Leo Roper; brother, Clyde Norman (Betty); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Zenna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Morris Poteat; and five sisters, Anne Burleson, Sudie Newton, Trudy Allman, Vergie Smith, and Nell Kimbrell.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Mull’s Grove Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. in the church with Rev. Dean McCurry and Pastor Billy Poteat officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I remember she would always get us something every Christmas and her husband uncle Robert use to cut hair and she would always ask us if we wanted anything to eat and things like that just a wonderful woman she will be missed
