Tommy Pete Smith

Tommy Pete Smith, 73, of Burkemont Ave. in Morganton died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a period of declining health. He was born August 16, 1936 in Burke County, and was a son of the late Ivey Smith and Lola Causby Smith. Tommy was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital with over 29 years of service.He is survived by children, Johnny Smith, and a daughter, Denise Smith Hopson and her husband, Chad, all of Morganton; one grandson, Teddy Allen Mayfield; brothers, Jim Smith and wife, Rebecca, and Ralph Smith, both of Morganton; and sisters, Becky Poarch and husband, Brathel, and Joyce Lingerfeldt and husband, Ken, all of Morganton.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Martha Deaton Smith; a son, Rodney Deon Smith; daughters, Angie Metcalf and Rebecca Dee Smith; and brothers, Robert and John Smith.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Andrew Parkey and Rev. Ken Mashburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 pm in the church. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
