Sherrill Allen Lytle, 64, of Morganton was called home to rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, October 4, 2018 after a period of declining health.  Born in Burke County, NC on July 15, 1954, he was the youngest of the eight children of Juanita Garrison Lytle and the late Norman Lytle, Sr.  Sherrill loved and shared a special relationship with them.  He was lovingly referred to as “Sherrill Baby” by his mother and known to his family and friends as “Sherrill the Pearl” because of his love for playing basketball.  Before his failing health, Mr. Lytle was known for his sharp mind, strong leadership skills, and friendliness.  Sherrill gave his heart to the Lord some years ago and it is with joy that his family looks forward to seeing him again with a new, perfectly built body given to him by Christ.

Sherrill was an active member of Chambers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Alpine until his health declined.  He had served as Sunday school superintendent and sang in the choir.  After completing Glen Alpine High School, Mr. Lytle attended Winston-Salem State University and later served in the U.S. Army.  Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Chicago and worked in food service.

After a long period of declining health, Sherrill lived with his mother and sister where he was cared for with much love and genuineness.

Sherrill will be remembered by his siblings, Elizabetheen Lytle, of Chicago, IL, Norman Lytle, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC, Patricia McClain of Morganton, Bernard Lytle (Ann) of Skokie, IL; Vera Bryant (Arney) of Morganton, Wanda Ramseur of Greensboro, NC, and Connie Lytle of Morganton, Aunts, Parona Evans of Morganton, Fannie Garrison of Greenville, NC, and Esther Lytle of Morganton; uncle, Lewis Rutherford of Morganton; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended families, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Chambers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church.  Burial will follow in McElrath Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Blue Ridge Home Health, Catawba Valley Medical Home Health, Premiere Home Health, and Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
