Robert C.W. Dean Ward, 78, of Morganton, NC passed away, Monday, January 18, 2021. Born on January 12, 1943, he was the son of the late Irene Dean McCracken. Robert served in the US Army from 1963 to 1973 and also served in the National Guard. He retired from the National Defense Service with the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Rifle, M14 Sharpshooter Carbine, and Marksman M-1.
Robert is survived by his wife Cynthia M. Blackmon - Ward son, Thomas Ward; daughters, Jennifer Hoyle (Shane), Tanieka Ward Akabane (Austin), Michelle Ellis; brothers, Jackie McCracken (Glenna), Ralph McCracken (Elaine), Paul McCracken; sister, Barbara Franklin (Harold); grandchildren, Joshua Lingerfelt, Jenna Ellis, Dana Myers (Zach), Hailey Medford (Matt), Amy Smith, Maybry Akabane; 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, Robert is preceded in death by his sister, Mary “Peepsie” Brown Tilley.
Services for Robert will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
