Richard Arthur Pruett, 88, of Morganton, NC, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on September 17, 1935, he is the son of the late Perry Amos Pruette and Flavie Alice Heavner Pruette.

Richard was a member of Zion Baptist Church and had served as a deacon at various churches. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, singing gospel music, and spending time with is granddaughters.

Mr. Pruett is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Moore Pruette; children, Roger Pruette, (Cathy) and Alice Burnette (Jason); grandchildren, Emilie Clontz (Nick), Lily Burnette, and Erica Burnette; siblings, Retha Hefner (James), Glen Pruette (Joyce), and Wayne Pruette (Dare); and numerous beloves nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three siblings, Revis Pruette, Larry Pruette, and Joyce Pruette.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Zion Baptist Church (3394 Pea Ridge Road, Morganton) with Rev. Keith Rose officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 3394 Pea Ridge Road, Morganton, NC 28655 in memory of Richard Pruett.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Sorry to hear that our brother in Christ has passed away although we have not seen each other in a while we remember all the times we had together thru the years going to church together going to singings. Just having known you as a brother in Christ I know you will be missed by family and friends but we know you are in a better place at home with the lord praying for the family until we meet again.
