Rennis Earl Harvey, 77, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 29, 2011 after a period of declining health. Born in Boone County, WV on April 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Frank Harvey and Lillie McCall Harvey. Rennis was a member of Walker Road Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was an avid golfer. Rennis lived in Illinois and worked at Singer printing Company for 33 years. After moving to Morganton, he was a long-distance truck driver for 15 years until his retirement.Rennis is survived by his wife, Ruth Lee Farthing Harvey of the home; a step-son, Roger Wilkerson and wife, Sue, of Des Plaines, IL; step-grandchildren, Adam Wilkerson and wife, Marika of Des Plaines, Christopher Wilkerson of Des Plaines, and Heather Wilkerson of Des Moines, IA; a step-great-granddaughter, Savannah Lynn Wilkerson; siblings, Wilma Allen of Oceana, WV, Rondel Harvey and wife, Kathlene of Lynco, WV, and Frank Harvey, Jr. and wife, Diane, of North Port, FL; and brothers-in-law, Bill Lester of Clover, SC and Danny Goodman of Lynco.In addition to his parents, Rennis was preceded in death by his sisters, Reitha Lester and Shelvie Goodman; and a brother, James Harvey.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Walker Road Baptist Church with Reverends Jerry Gamble and Lannie Smith officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
