Paul “Pete” Davis, 90, of Morganton, NC passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018.  Born in Forest City, NC on November 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas Marion Davis and Ila Hill Davis.  He was a beloved husband and friend.

 Mr. Davis was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir over 15 years, a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class, and happily served on numerous church committees.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of several veterans’ clubs.  Pete was a graduate of Mars Hill University and UNC Chapel Hill.  He retired from Proctor & Gamble with 39 years of service.  Some of his activities were ushering at CoMMA for 20 years, avid walker, hiker and loved to travel.  He also enjoyed his friends in the exercise group at the Collett Street Recreation Center and Veterans Group.

Pete is survived by his wife, Betty Sigmon Davis of the home; his daughters, Paula Davis Russell (Bill) and Melanie Davis, both of Colorado; step-daughters, Debbie Gilpin (Scott), of Ohio; Connie Hairfield Smith (Michael), and Angie Sigmon Farr (Dick), of Morganton.  Grandchildren: Derrick Russell and Natalie Russell; step-grandchildren:  Doug Hairfield, John Hairfield, and Courtney Farr; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his previous wife, Arlene Davis; brother, Bill Davis; and sisters, Marion Davis Butler and Jane Davis Ramsey.

 A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dana McKim officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard.  The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655 or Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.  

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Grace Heights and Burke Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care.
