Nancy Joann Hice Ross, 60, of Morganton died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Nancy was born in Catawba County on March 28, 1952 and was the daughter of the late Howard Hice, Sr. and Toyie Lee Bumgarner Hice. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne R. Ross, and by a brother, Terry Lee Hice.She graduated from Granite Falls High School and earned an A.A.S. degree in Business from Caldwell Community College. While a student at CCC, Nancy was named to Who’s Who in America’s Junior Colleges. Her career was spent at Chesterfield Elementary School where she was a major part of the school for many years and was named Teacher Assistant of the Year several times. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, teacher and friend, she leaves to cherish her memory her sons, David Wayne Ross and his wife, Heather and Brian A. Ross and his wife, Katie, all of Morganton; her grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Ross, Abigayle Rae Ross, Natalie Joann Ross, and Destiny Silvers; her brothers, Howard C. Hice, Jr. and wife, Jenny, and Roger Bumgarner and wife, Cindy, all of Hudson; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Clarence Correll officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour. Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 2441 Antioch Rd., Morganton, NC 28655, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, PO Box 381, Morganton, NC 28680, or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
