Lettie Whetstine Carswell McGimsey Lewis, 85 of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 25, 2016. Lettie was born January 16, 1931 in Burke County to the late Arthur Whetstine and Ida Mae Conley Whetstine. Lettie was a lifelong member of Linville United Methodist Church, donating much of her time to the community through service. Lettie always had a big heart for those in need- be it spiritually through the Gospel Music she sang for years, or physically, through donations of food and goods.
Lettie was preceded in death by the true love of her life, Billy V. Carswell. She was also preceeded in death by her second husband, Charles McGimsey; third husband, Gerald Lewis; sisters, Katie Mae Whetstine and Viola March; brothers, Ralph, Ervin and Ray Whetstine.
Lettie is survived by her daughters, Deborah Carswell Robinson and Rebecca Carswell Lankford and husband, John Lankford, all of Nebo; grandchildren, Chad Robinson and wife, Amanda, Bradley Robinson and fiancé, Rebecca Gilbert, Katherine Lankford and Claire Lankford; and four great- grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Teeter, Betty Saulmon and Edith Coburn; brothers, Jimmy, Bobby, Arthur Jr., and Larry Whetstine.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 PM at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Linville United Methodist Church with Rev. Jennifer Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
