Kathryne "Kathey" Causby Melton

Kathryne "Kathey" Causby Melton, 82, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at her residence following a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on July 26, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William Herndon Causby and Myrtle Singleton Causby. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was active for many years.Kathey was a former employee of Broughton Hospital, Grace Hospital, Burke County Public Schools, the American Red Cross, and a retired employee of the Burke County Health Department. She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women?s Club and a member of the Morganton Civitan Club. Kathey also volunteered with Burke Hospice.She is survived by her daughters, Myelitia Melton of Mooresville, NC and Trina Melton Barrier and husband, Tim, of Morganton; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her faithful feline companion, Sweetie.In addition to her parents, Kathey was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver L. Melton, Jr., and her step-mother, Irene Propst Causby.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
