James “Jimmy” Halliburton, 31, a loving husband and Daddy, of Morganton died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 due to a work related accident. Born in Lumberton, NC on February 20, 1983, he was the son of Brenda Carter Sponsler of Hope Mills, NC and the late Gerald Ellis Halliburton. Jimmy was an active member of Burkemont Baptist Church and was a member of Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217 where he was serving as a senior deacon. He had been working with the N.C. Forest Service since 2003. Jimmy was an honorable man who was quiet, simple, and loved life.
In addition to his mother, Jimmy is survived by his wife, Amber Halliburton of the home; children, Emma Grace Halliburton and Coleman Josiah Halliburton; his paternal grandmother, Betty Halliburton; his step-father Bud Sponsler; an aunt, Ellen Stephens and her husband, E.K., of Lumberton, NC and their daughter, Heather; his mother-in-law Sharon Hubbard; father-in-law Randy Hubbard, grandfather-in-law Bill Hubbard, and grandmother-in-law “Meme” Geneva York; and an extended family.
In addition to his father, Jimmy was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, “Mal Mal” Carter.
The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Burkemont Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with honors provided by the N.C. Forest Service and Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Amber Halliburton for the children’s college funds in care of Burkemont Baptist Church, 4668 Burkemont Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
