Herman H. Hall, 86 of Morganton, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at his residence, after an extended illness. He was born February 7, 1926 in Mitchell County, NC to the late Kirby and Ada Grindstaff Hall.Herman was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, and served in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns before being honorably discharged. He was a member and past president of VFW Post 5362 of Morganton, a member of Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge 217 and belonged to DAV Chapter 43. Herman attended Silver Creek Baptist Church. He was a long time electrician in the construction industry until his retirement, after retirement he worked as a self-employed electrician in Burke County.He leaves behind his wife, Geneva Chrisaw Hall of the home; a daughter, Glenda Devinney of Titusville, FL; sons, Gary Hall and wife, Karen of Titusville, Fl, Herman Hall, Jr. and wife, Diane of Drexel, Morris Hall of Morganton and Kenneth Hall and wife, Angie of Port St. John, Fl; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Fairchild and husband, Clayton Persinger of Morganton; a brother, Cloys Hall and wife, Edith of Morganton and a number of nieces and nephews.A funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Bishop Matthew Hall and Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard, Masonic rites will conducted by Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge 217. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
