Herbert Wright Browning, 96, of Morganton, NC, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
Born in Burke County, NC on July 24, 1926, he was the son of the late M.D. Browning and Katie Margaret Buff Browning. Mr. Browning was a veteran of WWII and served with the US Navy aboard the USS Amsterdam from 1944 to 1946. He retired from Drexel Heritage with 51 years of service. Herbert enjoyed working in his yard and loved spending time at Lake James with his family.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Browning is survived by his children, Janet Morgan, Keith Browning (Lauri), and Connie Ruggles (Marty); grandchildren, Shane Morgan (Caroline), Kyle Morgan (Liz), Matthew Ruggles (Danna), Zach Browning (Jessie), Sara Reynolds (Wyatt), Samantha Crocker (Jeremy), Jennifer Brookshire, and Graham Browning; great-grandchildren, Peyton Morgan, Harper Morgan, Aubree Ruggles, Will Browning, Addie Browning, and Fitz Reynolds; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy T. Browning; grandson, Daniel Ruggles; brothers, Devaude, Charles, Rupert, John Wesley, Fred, and Ralph; and son-in-law, Marty Morgan.
A private service will be held at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
